How therapy works here

We first engineer our thoughts, then our thoughts engineer our lives. Every session works from that one idea, and you leave each one with something to practice.

What's really going on

What people sayTherapy is often pictured as talking about feelings until you feel better.
What's usually happeningHere it is closer to training. A feeling is a receipt. It tells you a transaction happened, but it doesn't audit the thought that produced it. We audit the thought, test it against the facts and practice a better one. You set the goals, and I teach you how to get there.

What you might notice

  • You want practical work, not just a place to vent.
  • You are willing to try something between sessions.
  • You live in Arkansas or Missouri.

How we work on it

The same method every time: find the thought, test it, practice a better one.

  1. The first call or textCalls are returned within 4 hours, usually sooner. We find a time that works.
  2. The first sessionWe talk about what brought you in and what you want to be different. You leave with a first piece of work to practice.
  3. The sessions afterEach session runs 45 to 60 minutes. It starts with what happened when you practiced, then finds the next thought to work on.
  4. Measuring progressWhere it helps, we score the change instead of guessing at it.
  5. FinishingYou finish when you can steer your own thinking through whatever life brings, without me. I call that Navigational Adaptation. It often takes about 6 sessions for a basic issue and 18 to 24 for more complex ones.

Questions

How long is a session?

45 to 60 minutes.

What are your hours?

Weekdays 7 AM to 5 PM. Weekends are by appointment, at a different rate.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you need. A basic issue often takes about 6 sessions. More complex situations usually take 18 to 24.

Is it in person or by video?

Either. Video from anywhere in Arkansas or Missouri, or in person in Jonesboro by appointment.

Do you take insurance?

Therapy is private pay. I also take Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield (including Health Advantage and Blue Advantage), Medicare and UnitedHealthcare.

How is this different from coaching?

Therapy is for residents of Arkansas and Missouri, where I am licensed. Coaching programs are open anywhere and are not therapy.
