A method I use

Christian counseling

Scripture said it long before psychology did: be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

What's really going on

What people say"I shouldn't need therapy if my faith were strong enough." Strong faith and a stubborn wrong conclusion can live in the same person.
What's usually happeningHow you think shapes how you feel and what you do. Faith gives many people a set of truths to test their thinking against. When you ask for it, Christian counseling uses those truths in the work, alongside the same practical methods I use with every client.

This may fit if

  • You want your faith to be part of the conversation.
  • You keep punishing yourself for something already confessed and forgiven.
  • A marriage or family problem has a spiritual side you want to address.
  • You have tried to pray a problem away and it keeps coming back.

How it works

Your faith is included when you ask for it. Nobody is preached at.

  1. Tell me how you want faith involvedA lot, a little or not at all. You decide.
  2. Find the thoughtThe conclusion that runs the feeling, the same as any session.
  3. Test itAgainst the facts and, when you want, against what you believe.
  4. PracticeEach week ends with something to try, which may include prayer or Scripture if you choose.

Questions

Do I have to be a Christian to see you?

No. Clients of any faith or none are welcome, and faith only comes in when you ask for it.

Is this the same as talking to my pastor?

No. A pastor gives spiritual guidance. This is therapy, and it can work alongside your pastor.

Will you tell me what to believe?

No. The work uses what you believe. It does not argue with it.
